Hello and Happy Christmas, its been a crazy end to the year so heres a little of what I've been up to.

I wrapped up the year with a 60 minute live visual sequence for the incredible Blanck Mass debut at the Shacklewell Arms on Monday. It was a very special night for all who attended and I’m so proud to have had this epic labour of love so warmly received.

Below are a few stills of the gestation inspired visual journey I’ve been creating for the show over the past couple of months. I will be releasing a teaser clip of the visuals in the New Year but to experience the full set in all its glory you will have to join us at the next Blanck Mass show. Big thanks to Simone Ghilardotti & Felip Docolomansky for their incredible 3D assistance.

In other news I am adding the finishing touches to the new promo for We Have Band. Set for release in January the video for 'Where Are Your People' was one of my wildest shoots to date, I’m not going to give a thing away so keep those peepers peeled for the videos debut in the new year.

Finally massive congratulations to Blink for winning Production Company of The Year. I’m so proud to be represented by such an incredible company and to be working alongside so many directors, artists and producers I respect and admire.

NOVEMBER UPDATES - SHORT FILM / BLANCK MASS VISUALS / PERFUME

Due to my entire life being greatly consumed by an unhealthy obsession with making images move, I felt the need to drop a little insight into what’s been making my brain hurt over the past few months and what I hope to be showing you in the new year.

SHORT FILM (UNTITLED) - I’m just a few days away from finishing the script / animatic for my first full 'narrative' short. I think I’ve ended up writing around 30 versions of the script, each version seemingly more perverse than the last. Im equally scared and excited to see how the oddity that has existed deep within the darkest depths of my mind for the good part of a year will translate into actual moving images. Hoping to start shooting early Jan, more updates soon.

PERFUME - One of the most exciting projects of the year for me is also a project I’m allowed to say very little about. For the moment what I can say is that I have joined forces with artist Christopher Jarratt to creatively / art direct a ridiculously exciting and painfully exclusive, alternative luxury fragrance brand. Between us we are overseeing every aspect of the perfumeries creative output, all to be revealed very soon!

KK OUTLET 'OBJECT ABUSE' - EVIL EYE METRONOME

I was kindly invited by the good folks at KK Outlet to take part in their latest group show Object Abuse.

KK Outlet challenged a group of leading artists, designers and stylists to take an everyday object, remould, rebuild and repurpose it to create an entirely new item using as little additional materials as possible.

Inspired by Chinese beckoning cats, traditionally placed in doorways to welcome and bring luck, I used my own cultural background to design a moving talisman. Thanks to my Greek mother, there were always evil eyes around the house when I was growing up, and so I have made-over a metronome, transforming it into a kitsch evil eye amulet. Placed anywhere in the home, it promises to ward off evil spirits and negative vibes.

The full collection of transformed works will be on show at KK Outlet throughout September (Opening tonight) as part of London Design Festival and the ICON Design Guide. Each item will be for sale during the show with all proceeds being donated to the St Monica’s of Hackney Primary School Art Department. Full list of contributors.

'Object Abuse' is one of two group shows im exhibiting in this month, full details below:

KK Outlet present Object Abuse as part of London Design Festival.

The aim of the project is to create a collection of re-imagined objects which highlight not only how everyday items can be recycled into something new but also how we think differently when we work with our hands and how physical interaction creates new ideas over and above working through concepts on screen.

The full collection of transformed works will be show at KK Outlet throughout September as part of London Design Festival and the ICON Design Guide.

Each item will be for sale during the show with all proceeds being donated to the St Monica’s of Hackney Primary School Art Department.

VICE/NIKE - RUNNING

Whilst in LA, Vice Uk invited me to shoot a super short film loosely incorporating the theme running for a Nike event taking place in London.

On a microscopic budget, we used what we had to build one massive owl kite, courtesy of the bodacious Bayard Baudoin.

Shot in just a few hours during a blazing hot day on Santa Monica pier, and edited in only a few more. The beautiful Lauren Miller was the star of the show.

The epic three day shoot involved a huge array of playful components from building block robots, color coded pastel books, exploding sofas and one massive manually choreographed set.

MAD ARTISTS TEA PARTY

I am collaborating with the mighty Lily Vanilli for an event at the Future Gallery that opens on the 26th August - it will be a Fully Edible Art Exhibition sponsored by Tate & Lyle and feature many members of The Experimental Food Society (EFS) www.experimentalfoodsociety.com/

The event will see British Artists such as George Morten Clarke, Stuart Semple and Pete Fowler paired with food creatives such as Bompas & Parr, Prudence Staite, Michele Wibowo, Simon Smith, The Curious Confectioner and myself responding to the event's theme of FAIR.

In each case, the artist provides the concept and the food creative brings it into edible reality - in one off pieces such as a 6ft wedding cake designed by Stuart Semple - that will be auctioned - either for recreation or on the spot purchase- with all proceeds going to charity. (We Make Peace, The Fairtrade Foundation) On the Sunday day we will cut into and eat the artworks - there will also be unveiling a very special Cake Catapult conceived of and designed by Polly Betton (also of the EFS) and making a huge edible mess.

I have just completed three gigantic mirror sculptures for the new Origins exhibition at the Levi's flagship sore on Regent Street.

The quest for the perfect fitting pair of jeans is over!
Levi’s® is revolutionising women’s jeans and to celebrate Director and Craftworker Alex Turvey has created a unique installation in the Regent Street store. He took the opportunity to craft his own interpretation of the perfect fitting jeans and push the boundaries of window design to the next level:
“Inspired by traditional circus mirrors I designed large mirrored sculptures, each displaying its own personality, each creating a unique display of reflection. The mirrors generated an obscene amount of static electricity resulting in hundreds of micro shocks during install!
The beauty of the sculptures comes from the incredible range of reflections projected from each window, light bouncing from spike to spike creating a hypnotic web of reflection that changes from night to day
The process through which I realised the designs involved a bespoke combination of architectural techniques.”

Launching Origin is a beautiful photography display which introduces the Craftworkers featuring in the stunning brand campaign to support the store’s reopening. Captured by renowned photographer Dean Chalkley, the images will be displayed along side unique exhibits donated by each the Craftworkers to illustrate the varying inspirations, tools and products which make-up their craft.

Just returned from a rather wonderful shoot in Paris for Lilly Wood & The Prick. We were lucky enough to shoot in the beautiful building that was once home to playwright, Pierre-Louis Moline. The shoot for LW&TP's forth coming LP artwork featured over 500 giant handcut felt leaves, and plenty of Owl on Owl action! A sneaky preview below + bonus awkward group shot. Percival Fashion Film Ft Daisy Lowe

Director Alex Turvey has just completed a fashion film for clothing brand Percival. The film which was also written by Alex, features Daisy Lowe and showcases the Percival Autumn/ Winter 2010/ 2011 collection.

Alex says of his ideas for the film “The main inspiration was the clothing line itself, I felt the textures used in each garment echoed those in nature, which inspired the decision to shoot the film in a natural location. I didn’t want to create a conventional studio based fashion film, I wanted to tell a story, create an otherworldly atmosphere and take the viewer on a magical journey”.

Shooting on location provided a new and at times quite tough challenge for Alex and his team. Alex says of the experience “The film was shot in the deepest depths of a Southampton forest, there was little if no car access to the forest, meaning we had to transport huge bundles of willow for miles into the centre of the forest by foot and camp out several days before the shoot constructing our 8ft tall keyhole in the freezing woodland. However, I think I speak for everyone on the actual shoot day when I say the keyhole scene was our ‘moment’, when the light broke through the and hit the smoke, the atmosphere was just amazing!”

Shakira - Good Stuff

Recently I was commissioned to design & direct a wondrous live action space world for the new Shakira / SEAT 'Good Stuff' commercial.
I underwent a intensive design process prior to shooting, designing the sets, mirrored wolf masks, planets and one ridiculously uncomfortable mirror dress which encased a very tolerant 'Queen Shakira Wolf' for the day. All of which was masterfully photographed by the legendary DoP Simon Chaudoir over a very snowy but very fun two-day shoot.

I will be posting my directors cut of 'Shakiras Space World' very soon, so keep them peeled.

So my Christmas has been thus far been consumed by a rather HUGE project for the wonderful Shakira. Shooting for 2 days next week with a fabulous crew and some equally fabulous props.

I also managed to squeeze in a beautiful stills shoot for my favorite Parisians Lilly Wood & The Prick last weekend, soon to be used as the artwork for there forth coming album 'Invincible Friends'. I will also be directing a wondrous new video for Lilly Wood end of Jan, busy busy busy, but lots of nice things to show soon.

Im also hoping to make some progress on my first short early next year.

Keep them Peepers well and truly Peeled.

My new fashion film for Dazed & Confused will be screening at the BFI this week alongside films by the mighty Chris Cunningham & Solve Sundsbo to Name a few.

The macabre short, is a surreal portrayal of fashion at its most extreme, featuring exclusive wig commissions by Charlie Le Mindu!

Heres an exciting piece of trivia; the lips wig I commissioned for the film has since been worn by none other than Lady Gaga for her forthcoming album art work, and is set to grace the pages of french Vouge!

It was over mushrooms on toast that Nathan and I decided to recreate his childhood portfolio of animal illustrations on a mammoth scale. Originally rendered in pencil under the guidance of a trailer-park drawing class in Edmonton, Canada, when Nathan was just seven years old, the repertoire of very strange-looking owls, lions, lynxes, polar bears and monkeys were painstakingly copied from wildlife photographs. In honour of such young talent, we decided to create Nathan's Place, a huge 2D landscape of his childhood animals, and an homage to Canadian children's TV host, Fred Penner (who climbed through logs into magical worlds, and had an enviable collection of wooly jumpers).

The making process took two weeks of solid graft. I rigged up a projector so that Nathan could redraw his illustrations with paint marker and charcoal. Simultaneously, the boys moved their tools and materials into my flat where they worked day and night, sawing, sanding and drilling until the set was complete—resembling a pop-up book where each animal had a hand-operated, movable function, from bobbing heads to roving eyes.

After a sweltering two-day shoot smack bang in the middle of the July heat wave, followed by a week of solid animation, I then took the footage to Paris in order to grade the final edit with the wonderful people at La Pac. All in all, the project has been a labour of love for everyone involved, the only problem now being, what to do with the eight-foot owl in my living room and the lion at the end of my bed.

PHEW. After 2 very long weeks transforming my studio into an utterly wondrous wilderness, followed by 2 disgustingly hot shoot days smack bang in the middle of the heat wave, im now in lovely Paris grading the fruits of our labour at La Pac.

I also have over 20 hours of making of footage to edit. FUN.

All shall be revealed early next week!

Im pleased to announce the release of my latest video for 'Down The Drain' by Paris's finest 'Lilly Wood & The Prick'.

Excitingly it has already been selected as video & single of the week on I Tunes France.

It took an intensive 19 hour shoot including gallons of glitter, a cubic meter of bark chippings and a 10 foot polystyrene tree to achieve the below. I worked with Chris Jarratt on the construction of the set, spending a rather sweaty day prior to shooting painstakingly distributing bark chippings and planting glitter coated trees.

Both the cat and owl masks were created by my wonderful mother Helena Turvey at her studio in Cornwall. She build built all four masks and wings over a three week period with no assistance.
